HP Error Codes

0x97
Critical Firmware Error
Affects OfficeJet Pro series. Usually follows a firmware update. The printer becomes completely unresponsive.
→ Power cycle + partial reset sequence required

Ink System Failure
The printer detected an ink system issue. Often triggered by third-party cartridges or a dislodged ink absorber.
→ Clean ink contacts, reset cartridge memory

LaserJet Firmware Error
Occurs on LaserJet series — typically caused by a corrupt print job or PostScript issue. The printer halts mid-job.
→ Clear print queue, update firmware
E3
Carriage Jam
The ink carriage cannot complete its full sweep. Usually caused by debris or a partially closed cover.
→ Open top cover, clear obstruction manually
Epson

Epson Error Codes

5B00
Ink Absorber Full
The internal waste ink pad has reached capacity. This is a service code requiring the pad to be replaced or the counter reset.
→ Replace absorber or use Epson Adjustment Program
W-01
No Paper / Paper Feed Error
Printer cannot detect paper. Either the tray is empty, paper isn't seated correctly, or the paper sensor is dirty.
→ Reseat paper, clean feed rollers
0x10
Fatal Error
A serious internal hardware fault. Appears after aggressive head cleaning cycles or power surges.
→ Full power reset cycle required
I-60
Ink Cartridge Not Recognized
Cartridge chip not reading correctly. Common after chip resets or third-party refills.
→ Clean contacts, reseat cartridge
Canon

Canon Error Codes

B200
Fatal Print Head Error
The most dreaded Canon code. Indicates print head failure or overheat. Sometimes recoverable, sometimes terminal.
→ Cold reset sequence, head replacement as last resort
5100
Carriage Error
Print carriage is obstructed or the encoder strip is dirty. The printer cannot complete a sweep.
→ Remove debris, clean encoder strip
6000
Paper Feed Failure
Paper cannot be pulled in from the tray. Almost always a dirty or worn feed roller.
→ Clean feed rollers with damp cloth
1401
Ink Cartridge Not Installed
Cartridge not seated or not recognised. Common after refilling or using compatible cartridges.
→ Reinstall cartridge, check chip contacts
Brother

Brother Error Codes

DRUM END
Drum Unit End of Life
The drum counter has reached its rated limit. Print quality may deteriorate. Counter can be reset after replacement.
→ Replace drum unit, reset counter via menu
UNABLE PRINT 50
Fuser Unit Error
The fuser assembly has reached end of life or is operating outside temperature range.
→ Replace fuser unit
TONER LOW
Toner Near Empty
Toner reaching end of cartridge. Brother's warning system is conservative — you typically have 15–20% remaining.
→ Continue or replace; reset via settings if desired
COVER OPEN
Front / Rear Cover Not Closed
A door sensor is reading the cover as open. Often caused by a small piece of torn paper caught in the sensor.
→ Inspect all doors and clear any paper debris
